If I was, and had experienced my story today, I would promptly discuss the matter with my sweet hubby and get us to switch to Direct TV. (which is our network of choice).

Ok, now realize my experience was actually work related and it included me calling Dish Network to figure out a charge on my customer's account. It isn't a "personal" matter, but after my experience...I'm taking it personally!!

DISH OPERATOR: Hello, this is Craig how may I help you today (in an extreme, totally over-caffeinated, happy tone)

ME: Yes, I have a mutual customer who has a charge on their account that we would like to research the origins to. (in a nice, friendly tone, but definitely not too pushy)

DISH OPERATOR: (almost interrupts my above statement) what's the customer's phone number?

ME: (giving the digits...) My customer wasn't aware of a fee for the set up.

DISH OPERATOR: Yes, it looks like that is our $49.99 processing fee. Let me check our recording to make sure that this fee was disclosed during the sales agreement with the customer...(again, just a wee bit TOO familiar with having to say those exact words)

ME:...ok

DISH IDIOT: Yes, we have it on recording that we disclosed this fee (rambling crap, blah blah blah)....he goes on and on about that the fee would stick and they would not refund it per his supervisor's advice etc.

ME: (interrupting his rambling) could you explain what the fee is for? (again, in a couteous tone)

DISH IDIOT: (speaking more quickly than should be humanly possible) Its a processing fee where we have to generate the account number and get the paperwork ready for the equipment to be installed....

ME: (thinking...you have got to be kidding...you charge $50 to generate an account number and make an appointment?????).....so, its basically a frivolous fee? (mind you, I didn't say this in a jerky tone AT ALL...my customer even said so)

DISH JERK: NOW NOW Ma'am, there is no need to use such harsh language. Those fees are necessary and were completely disclosed to the customer at the time of the set up and they will not be refunded so thank you and have a good day....click....

ME: (IN TOTAL SHOCK)....he just hung up on me.....and I never ONCE uttered the words, "can the fee be refunded?"

The customer was nice to me about the whole thing (well, of course since it wasn't my fault). I had to hide my anger and total disgust for the jerk who hung up on me so that my customer didn't think I was a complete loon....but seriously?? seriously?? That conversation caused me to get a dial tone?

DISH NETWORK STINKS!
Julie Nephewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06900163661305883419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748792674813587449.post-32842531128123888242010-03-24T16:53:00.003-05:002010-03-24T17:06:31.789-05:00New AdventureFor the past year now, I've slowly picked up a hobby. I even blogged about wanting to try it during my NaBloPoMo adventure in Nov 2008. Notice, I didn't participate in the "adventure" in 2009....ya...totally got me burnt out on blogging. I'm not sure I've ever fully recovered.

....Sadness, I know.

So, I'm embarking on a new adventure. My hobby for making cards and other creative paper projects could potentially turn into MORE. I took the plunge and am signing up to be a Stampin' Up Demonstrator. Now, not only do I get to create fun projects, but I can host club events to show others how to make them too! With a full time job as Ms. Banker Extraordinaire, I'm not sure how big of an endeavor this will turn into, but I'm still excited.

My friend and craft buddy, Jamie, and I have started a new blog called Crafting Among Friends. There, you can find current projects and crafting ideas. Eventually, I hope to use it to show my Stampin' Up projects too.

So, I guess for now - just wish me luck - oh, and if you would like to have a paper crafting party, just let me know!!! :)Julie Nephewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06900163661305883419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748792674813587449.post-75642562689583072662010-01-20T14:50:00.004-06:002010-01-20T15:27:26.205-06:00JoyfulFor the past several weeks, I have had this uncontrollable joy. It doesn't matter if I was doing a random job at work, taking care of laundry at home, or even going to the grocery store...my joy followed along. I've been saying hello to random strangers at stores and wish them a great day and even really meant it. Now, there have been a couple days where my joy was a bit lacking, but for the most part, every day is a joyous day.

In my life, I often have been called bubbly, happy, loud, etc. I guess its just part of my personality. In the past, I sometimes have to "fake" the happy when I'm not in the best of moods, but here lately, the joy that just spills out me is uncontrollable and natural.

So, I've been wondering about this joy. Why the sudden change?

Today it hit me like a ton of bricks.....BAM! It was the biggest DUH moment of the year so far.

My husband and I are participating in the One Year Bible Challenge at our church. Each day we read a section from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms, & Proverbs. So far, I haven't missed a day. Not trying to toot my own horn here - so I'm just going to keep it real. Yes, I've read it...problem is, I'm not always remembering what I read. I'm following the Old Testament sections and can recall later in the day what it was about...but ask me about Psalms or Proverbs and my mind goes blank. So ya, I need to work on that whole meditating on the Word better.

So, back to the joy. My joy is totally Jesus Joy. (at least that's what I'm calling it) My day starts each morning with the Word of God running through my brain. My joy is totally of Christ and is simply a overflow of His immeasurable grace. Its the best feeling eva! Highly recommend it!!

To finish up this Joyous post, I thought it would be appropriate to leave you with some song lyrics that may be a bit childish, but still totally summarize the blessings that God is daily sending my way!

"I've got JOY down in my heart. Deep, deep, down in my heart.
J-O-Y down in my heart. Deep, deep, down in my heart.
Jesus put it there and nothing can destroy it, -stroy it, -stroy it, (HUH).
I've got JOY down in my heart. Deep, deep, down in my heart!"Julie Nephewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06900163661305883419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748792674813587449.post-28657184439831023632009-12-17T10:56:00.004-06:002009-12-17T11:14:44.520-06:00I'm Back?
Well, its been far too long since my last post. So many things have happened....mostly good stuff.

We sold a house and moved into a new one. Fantastic blessing! It is actually the house my father grew up in. I have such wonderful memories of family gatherings in it, and now we can add more and more memories and stories. Its a great house to entertain, and we have already put it to use a few times.

My holiday shopping is almost complete. Just a few odds and ends left. I've almost completed my Christmas Cards and geared up for some a baking extraveganza Friday evening. I wasn't going to share my Christmas photo until after my cards are sent, but not many people read this blog anyway and its just such a cute pick...I'll go ahead and share!

So, hopefully come the New Year, I'll start blogging more. No long conversation. All she said was, "I made this for you." Its a simple bookmark with a prayer printed on it that has been laminated. I taped it to my monitor at work as a constant reminder as to what my focus should be.....

Help Us, Lord Jesus
(Author Unknown but it may have been my customer/friend who wrote it...)

Help us to make you known in our lives, Lord Jesus. When people see us and know us let them see You in us.

Help us to understand who You are. Help us to know You personally and intimately in our individual lives.

Help us to walk daily with You. Help us to repent when we fall. Help us to give abundant thanks when you forgive and pick us up, again and again.

In the name of our Lord and Savior, You, Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen and Amen.Julie Nephewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06900163661305883419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748792674813587449.post-67100453743637822402009-04-07T11:25:00.005-05:002009-04-07T11:58:07.855-05:00Life Change Chronicles Continue...Well, I have come to the conclusion that I cannot update the Chronicles daily....I have a life people. I know my faithful readers (all 2 of them) (who NEVER comment on the awesomesness...sadness and tears) have been dying for more....so here is an update.

I'm down 13 lbs. Woo hoo! This past weekend was rough - I ate a whole lotta yumminess that was full of badness, but still lost weight. It will probably catch up to me later in the week.

Hubby and I have decided to give each other an insentive to lose weight...so once a week, we weigh in and get paid. Cash. Moola. Green Stuff (not to be confused with "Green" Stuff). We get paid $1/pound, but also have to give back $1/pound for any weight gain. Since Hubby has lost over 30 pounds, I agreed to retroactive the payday. I'm such a reasonable gal!

So our dinners for the week are consisting of fish or chicken, veggies, and brown rice. Last night I cooked up some tilapia fillets in our Turbo Cooker (yes, the as seen on TV cooker). The only thing I've cooked in it so far is fish. We also own the Onion Chopper and think it is one of the best inventions ever.

We are both trying to work out twice a day, totaling 1 hour. I'm feeling the workout today especially in my ab area. Doing pretend hula hoops for 10 minutes really works over the abs!

I need to blog a little more about other family happenings - like the kiddos birthdays, family reunion, my amazing new hair do, and the spring "blizzard" for 2009.

So, until next time...peace out.Julie Nephewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06900163661305883419noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748792674813587449.post-77073117256679505072009-03-30T12:35:00.004-05:002009-04-07T11:58:32.594-05:00Life Change Chronicles - Back on TrackDay 4ish....not including the weekend of indulgence.

So, I didn't gain the 5 lbs I predicted...only gained 2 lbs. I'm sick of cake and am totally craving a big salad with grilled chicken. I think that is a good thing, right?

So, same ol' same ol' this morning....

Worked out on the Wii Fit for 3o minutes. Hopefully, I can work out an additional 30 minutes tonight after dinner...or possibly while dinner is cooking. That would be extra awesome if I could do that. Talk about some major multi-tasking!

Breakfast consisted of the ever popular "Green" Stuff. It was actually almost a shade of green this time. I don't know what I did differently though.

Lunch will be a Lean Cuisine meal and probably some apple sauce.

Snack - Luna bar. They are pretty yummy.

Dinner will be baked chicken, brown rice, and veggies.

I just gotta get more water in my system. That's a big weakness of mine...well...that and my love for all things sweet.

I'm not giving up in my quest to be America's Next Top Model!!Julie Nephewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06900163661305883419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748792674813587449.post-24344687100551559382009-03-27T11:28:00.004-05:002009-04-07T11:59:07.765-05:00Life Change Chronicles - Day 3I didn't work out this morning. Instead I cooked some yummy, fat filled crescent roll thingies for work. We are celebrating one of my co-workers birthday's today.

I did weigh though - and I'm down 0.7 lbs. WOO HOO!

Height - same as far as I know...man that would stink if you woke up one morning and was considerably shorter than the previous day.

Food - this weekend is going to be rough. We are celebrating Shelby's birthday tonight (she turns 14 today! Happy Birthday Shelby Girl!), celebrating Michael's mom's birthday tomorrow (unless the Blizzard that is heading our way cancels the party) and celebrating Austin and Shelby's birthday with my family on Sunday....that's a lot of cake....

And as for my eats of the day....
Breakfast - snacked on a bit of everything at work...no "Green" stuff today. I totally got burned out. I've been trying to think of ways to stay motivated in keeping up with a journal about our family's life in Ponca City America, but its difficult sometimes.

Currently, hubster and I have gotten into a small health kick - well - my kick is a bit smaller than his. I am so proud of that man. He is a working out machine!!! Last night I came up with the idea that I should blog about our adventure of weight loss...talk about some accountability!!! Anyway, so today starts my first day of chronicling my life change adventure.....

(I know you are probably having heart palpitations from the excitement of it all)

So, lets start at the beginning of the day....that's always a good way to start.

6:15 AM (OUCH) - dreaded alarm goes off

6:45 AM - after two snooze hits, I finally drag out of bed

7:00 AM - weigh on the Wii Fit...lost approx 2 lbs...sweetness!!! Very yummy and good for me too!

Snack - No idea yet, but I'm sure I'll want some sort of snack after church tonight.

Now if I could just drink more water....Julie Nephewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06900163661305883419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748792674813587449.post-86903510859710734762009-02-17T15:30:00.005-06:002009-03-26T10:14:38.251-05:00A Case of RandomnessI received this "survey" on my facebook page, but figured I could post it here too!!

Basically - just list 25 random facts about yourself. So, here it goes...

1. This is my 3rd time at typing this out. My first two attempts were eaten by the Internet monsters. I’m still a little peeved about it too.

2. It took two failed attempts at this task to make me realize that I should type it in Word first.

3. I was really funny in my first two attempts.

4. Hopefully, I will be funny in this try as well.

5. I have a lot of nicknames. Michael calls me Julz or Julinator, Vic calls me JuJu, Mom calls me The Jewel, Suzy, or Suzy Q (I don’t know why), my dad called me Tootette, and my loving brother calls me by the ever affectionate term of Butthead.

6. I have played a few different instruments in my life including the recorder (haha), piano, cello, flute, and piccolo.

7. I’ve held 3 different job positions during my 7 ½ years at the bank.

8. I love my kids. Even though they may not be my blood, they are still 100% my children, and I feel so blessed to have them in my life.

9. I can pretty much always see the “other side” to an argument. I may not agree with the other side, but I normally see it and will explain why that person may be feeling a certain way.

10. I also question things a lot. I want the facts so I can form my own opinion. I think this comes from having a history of attorneys in the family.

11. By getting married, I have learned that not everyone wants to hear the “other side” and sometimes just want to be heard. This is difficult for me. I want to fix the situation.

12. My favorite color is red but I look best in lavender. I call it my signature color since I always get compliments when I wear it. A lavender day is always a good day!

13. If I can’t sleep, I count. I don’t count sheep because I start visualize them jumping over a fence and that gets me dizzy…so I just count. I know this sounds weird/funny, but it works!

14. In high school, I traveled a lot…it just wasn’t ever with my family. Between band, chorale, and other touring groups, I was able to visit most of the South Eastern states, along with Texas, Illinois, England, and Wales.

15. I’m the loud one.

16. I love card making and hope to one day be a Stampin’ Up Demonstrator…anyone want to have a party??

17. I wish everyone could just get along. Why is there always backstabbing, hurt feelings, and misunderstandings? I always want to fix these situations.

18. My spiritual gift is exhortation. Definition: Language intended to incite and encourage; advice; counsel; admonition. An earnest attempt at persuasion.

19. I can find enjoyment out of almost every type of music.

20. I once won a lip contest in the mall. You had to “kiss” a post-it note and people voted on the best pucker. I won some Origins bath salt scrub.

21. We have two dogs – Maddie and Panda. Panda tends to have accidents in the back area of the living room. We have gated that area off so they can’t get back there. For some reason, she hasn’t taken up peeing elsewhere yet. Dogs are strange.

22. One of my all-time favorite Bible verses is Phil 4:6-7. It gives me such peace.
(6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.)

23. In high school, my BFF Jenny and I started our own business called Memory Mats. Basically, we took picture mats and decorated them to show different high school events. We even made up our own logo for the business. Her father was our investor and our only clients were our mom’s. Even so, they were still really cute!

24. Michael and I planned our wedding around football season. Oct 15 was the perfect date – no home game for OU or OSU (which was also a plus for many of the guests). We contemplated showing the OU game during the reception, but it wasn’t starting until later in the evening (plus might have been a smidgen tacky….nah…my family would have loved it!)

25. I haven't had a haircut in over a year. I need one but can't decide on a style plus I feel like its almost a waist of money since it will just keep growing. (and Yes, I know this is dumb to think this way)Julie Nephewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06900163661305883419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748792674813587449.post-82219371004600651512009-02-13T10:57:00.005-06:002009-02-13T11:30:54.439-06:000.46$0.46. That's the amount that was owed on my credit card. A credit card that I don't use.

(Dave Ramsey anyone?).

My McAfee antivirus is scheduled for automatic renewal, and I plum forgot that it was attached to this unused card. So, after a $15 late fee and a letter stating that they couldn't get in touch with me, I realized that maybe I should take a look at the account. I shell out the $50 balance and make a mental note to check on any finance charges that may appear after the payment (they always do!).

So today, I log into the account and my balance shows a whopping $0.46. I go to make an online payment and the stupid system won't let it go through for less than $1.00. Hmm...why would I pay more than I owe?? I'm not planning on using this card as a savings account, so I call the company....

After canceling my attempt at phone payment (that included a fee of $15!! -crazy person say what??), I quickly pressed '0' to speak with a live person. While twiddling my thumbs, I listened to some groovy elevator music for a good 5-10 minutes. All this time, I'm preparing my case, going back and forth on what route to go.....do I stay pleasant and ask nicely? Do I sound professional and commanding? Do I cry and tell them what an injustice this fee is?

After the eternity of hold time, I finally get a gal on the phone. We will call her Gladys. Ms. Gladys was very pleasant. YEAH! I got a nice one. So, I simply say, "Gladys, I think it is silly to mail you guys a $0.46 check. Can you help a girl out??" My BFF then quickly giggled and said, "No problem, we will credit your account." She even mentioned the fact that it would be silly to waist a perfectly good check on $0.46.

I 'heart' her.Julie Nephewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06900163661305883419noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748792674813587449.post-64334037656156131272009-02-05T11:33:00.009-06:002009-02-05T12:18:41.885-06:00What's In a Name?I think the name "Julie" sounds weird. I can say that because its mine. When I call someone named Julie, it sounds normal, but when talking about myself, it just sounds weird. If I had made it out of my mom's tummy a boy, I would have been named "Jay." I think Julie is so much more fitting (even if it sounds weird).

According to Think Baby Names, my name has a French origin and means "youthful." Oh so fitting, don't ya think? When I searched for the origin of "Jay," I found that it has a Latin origin meaning "jaybird" or "song bird." It could also come from another Latin word that means "happy." So either way, very fitting I would say. I'm totally going to start telling people they are happy as a jaybird now too.

Funny thing is my parents picked out the names only because they start with a "J." (In my opinion, the name Jay was a total cop-out). I doubt word origins were at the top of their priorities at the time. We are a family of "J" names. Actually, we are a family of "J.E" names. We have John Edward (aka Dad, Father, Daddy, Daddio), Jen Ellen (aka mom, momma, mother, mama mia), Jeff Edward (aka the brother, Beavis), and Julie Elizabeth (aka ME - totally rad chickadee).

Another fun tidbit for all you trivia fans is the fact that all of our initials spell my mom's first name (well, mom's doesn't anymore). Even when I got married, my initials didn't change - oh so fun and probably the #1 reason I knew Michael was the one for me.

(ok, I'm kidding on the last part....kinda...)

Names become so important. They become a part of who you are. People identify the name with your personality, with your character. How often do you hear someone say, "Oh, I can't name my child "Jillian" because I grew up with a girl named that?" (or some other reason) The name becomes the person.

So, hi, my name is Julie....I guess that makes me youthful at heart with a little bit a weird mixed in for good measure.Julie Nephewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06900163661305883419noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748792674813587449.post-89648994845524694582009-01-12T15:15:00.010-06:002009-03-26T10:18:20.266-05:00Bankers can party?Saturday night, Michael and I attended my work Winter Party. We aren't trying to be politically correct (we used to have a Christmas Party). Last year, the date was moved to January, and since it seems extremely silly to call it a Christmas Party in January, it is now deemed a Winter Party.

The past two years I've been on the planning committee. Basically, my main job duty is getting the table decorations in order. I get a little particular on the details, but my fellow committee members are wonderful about not getting their feelings hurt when I tell them that you can't have bright red streamers at an "elegant" styled event. It just won't fly.

The evening begins with a short social time for people to chit-chat with co-workers and spouses and locate a table to sit at for the evening. We then enjoy a buffet dinner with some sort of yummy dessert to follow. After dinner, the bank executives have a short program which includes announcing the Employee of Year. (no, I didn't win....so sad). Once the program is wrapped up, everyone grabs their free steaks (I think we get 8 of them) and gets ready for the DJ and Cash give-away time. Normally, this is the one time each year when you will see me out dancing away with no fear of judgment for looking stupid. (I often dance silly and totally own that fact - I can do a mean Q-tip dance).

I even won some cash too!! Sweet! Too bad its already spent, but hopefully our Wi-Fi connection will be a bit better on our desktop now. (I totally feel a little ADD with this post...oh look a kitty...)

The evening was a great success. Michael even seemed to enjoy it - I think he just enjoys watching bankers try to dance.Julie Nephewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06900163661305883419noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748792674813587449.post-58424463536152637702009-01-05T10:14:00.006-06:002009-01-15T07:44:03.529-06:00PJ's, Ice Cream, and Lights

So, I know I've become a slacker, but I was on vacation and took it to heart by doing a whole lot of nuttin' (including updating my blog). Now that our house is back to normal, I guess I should get back in the grind of blogging.

Christmas was great this year. Among the Nephew's celebratory events included our 2nd Annual Light Watching Extravaganza. On the Saturday before Christmas (that would make it the 20th), the 4 of us dressed down in our PJ's (or pre-j's for some), stopped by Sonic for an ice cream involved beverage, and traveled around Ponca City America to look at lights.

We stopped by my mom's house so she could document the occasion for us. How awesome is her fireplace??? They just finished remodeling the house and it turned out beautiful.

So anyway, after looking at all the pretty lights, we drove back home. Michael and I decided to surprise the kids by seeing if they wanted to open their presents early. The kiddos quickly squealed with delight and said yes. We figured that since the kids were going to their mom's house on Christmas evening, they wouldn't have much time to enjoy their gifts...so why not just open them early!?! It seemed to go over well too and definitely made the week more relaxing.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas Season! Merry Christmas!! (a little late)

Julie Nephewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06900163661305883419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748792674813587449.post-10032960487160905572008-12-18T02:36:00.005-06:002008-12-18T07:56:28.179-06:00A sheer crack up!
Last night was a special night at Awana's. Not only did it ring in the 2 week break (yeah!) but the kids (and adults)also dressed down in their PJ's, listened to the Pastor and his wife Laurie read/acted out the Christmas story, and made sheep Christmas tree ornaments.

Back story: I help the 1st graders. Austin is in 2nd grade. Two types of yarn choices - one fluffy and one not. In my opinion, the fluffy one was WAY cuter. So, using my leader connection skills, I make sure that Austin gets some of the fluffy yarn for his sheep. I feel like I'm watching out for my kid and being a good parent by hooking him up with the starts of a great sheep...

So, fast forward through the night...It was a crazy night, but the kids all seemed to have fun. (Leaders - not so much). We are getting ready to leave and Austin is showing off his sheep to me. (which by the way he named Candy because I guess they both like sweets) He cut off almost all the yarn....basically sheering the sheep in a way. When I asked him why he cut it off, he simply said, "it was too fluffy." So cracked me up. Here, I think I'm looking out for the little guy when I should have just let him pick the yarn himself. Ok, I know in the picture, the sheep looks fluffy, but it was supposed to be TWICE (maybe even three times) that size with yarn.

Still, little Ms. Candy Sheep (i think its a girl) is pretty darn cute and will proudly be displayed annually at our house.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748792674813587449.post-31007884664549010832008-12-10T11:02:00.010-06:002008-12-12T10:18:08.763-06:00Christmas Picture OuttakesA couple of nights ago our family took our annual Christmas picture together. I still kept my eyes/ears open for any good blogging topics, but decided to just focus on the family and Christmas card making. So, I figured I would tiptoe back into blogging with a survey!

CHRISTMAS FUN

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Wrapping paper all the way. Although I totally hate wrapping presents (Michael normally wraps the majority), I add the pretty bows that make them look so cute under my "department store" tree.

2. Real tree or Artificial? Artificial all the way. I'm a practical gal and am fearful of a squirrel nesting in my tree and popping out to attack me.

3. When do you put up the tree? Normally, I put it up right after Thanksgiving. I almost put it up early this year since we weren't having Thanksgiving dinner at our house this year.

4. When do you take the tree down? After New Years. I hate taking down the decorations. The house just looks so plain.

5. Do you like eggnog? Yup...especially in Braums ice cream form. Oh so good. Last time Michael and I went by to get some (his in shake form), they only had enough for his shake...so I'm still without my yummy ice cream treat. Hopefully, I'll get to experience the joy soon.

6. Favorite gift received as a child? Hmm...I had several that I loved. I was always a big fan of Barbie and My Little Ponies. I know one of the stupidest presents I ever ASKED for (and got). My bro wanted a skateboard from Santa, and being that I wanted to be like him and have the same type stuff, I asked for one too. I never could ride it correctly and ended up just sitting on it while riding down hills.

7. Hardest person to buy for? Toss up between my step-dad Vic and Michael's parents.

8. Easiest person to buy for? So easy to buy for me...but if I'm buying for someone else...my nephew Jackson is pretty easy to shop for. Oh and my niece Jenna because she is only like 7 months old and doesn't really care yet.

9. Do you have a nativity scene? Sadly, no. I TOTALLY want the Willow Tree one but don't want to spend the money on it. I'm a bit particular in what type of nativity scene I wanted, so I just never bought one.

10. Mail or email Christmas cards? MAIL for sure! I love getting Christmas cards and displaying them all over our mantel. I'm making my cards this year too. At first I regretted that decision because I was getting a bit indecisive, but now am loving it!

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? A horribly ugly jacket that I got in high school. I just had to grin and say thanks. It was thoughtful in that it was a really warm jacket and I was always cold, but it was ohhhhh so ugly!

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? I love the old Frosty, Rudolph, and Santa's Coming to Town ones. Michael let me buy them on DVD too...but still haven't gotten to watch them yet. So sad...so so sad.

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? This year I started early with great intentions (early - meaning before Thanksgiving) but still have quite a bit left to do!

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Just for Dirty Santa gifts.

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Hmm - I have several favorites - lots of sweets. I also miss having my dad's Sausage and Bean Soup on Christmas Eve. It was oh so yummy!

16. Lights on the tree? White lights - would love it if they twinkled

17. Favorite Christmas song? O' Holy Night

18. Travel at Christmas time or stay home? Thankfully we get to stay in Ponca City. Normally, we are at my mom's house.

19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer's? Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, Ruldolph. Oh, and almost forgot Donald - Amber's imaginary reindeer!

20. Angel on the tree top or a star? We have an angel but I don't have a preference. Just has to work with the tree motif

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Its always been Christmas morning (well, depending on if we have the kids) but this year, Michael and I are talking about changing things up with our immediate family a bit.

22. Favorite Holiday memory as a child? Midnight Christmas Eve service at Presbyterian Church snuggled up to my Nana and her white fur coat. It was the first time I remember getting to hold a lit candle.

23. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I don't remember how old I was, but my friend Stephanie told me while I was over at her house. I didn't believe her at first but then started realizing that there was no way Santa could be real...still played like he was though for many, many years to come. I'm not sure when my parents realized that I knew the truth.

24. Favorite for Christmas dinner? We normally have a meal similar to Thanksgiving dinner on Christmas. I would love to have a ham instead with cheese potatoes and all the yumminess or to have Sausage Bean Soup for Christmas Eve again. YUM YUM!

25. What do you want for Christmas this year? Stamping stuffUnknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748792674813587449.post-16535801784334648392008-12-01T10:58:00.003-06:002008-12-01T11:06:26.775-06:00Hasta La Vista, Baby!NaBloPoMo is over! I did it. I really did it. I feel accomplished, a real go getter!

Remind me next year, not to participate. I'll totally root on my blog friends who are up for the NaBloPoMo challenge, but it's definitely something I'll be abstaining from next year.

So, for those of you who have gotten used to a daily dose of Julie...well...I'm taking the week off....at least a week. Maybe more.

So, until next time...Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748792674813587449.post-33752285448343496852008-11-30T21:18:00.012-06:002009-03-26T10:16:37.063-05:00Mother and FriendI have a cool mom. She is one of my best friends, and I love spending time with her.

Growing up she gave me perm after perm (first one being when I was 3!!), let me play in her makeup (I still love doing that), and did Jane Fonda workout videos every morning (I even joined in sometimes for fun...weird to think of it as fun now but I was little).

I was a handful - either totally happy or totally not. As a teen, I never really got that whole embarrassment about being with your mom. She was cool. She still is!

In high school, I would often remind my mother that she wasn't a teenager herself and that my friends weren't her age. It was a on-going joke between us. (Not in a creepy Maury Povich Show kind of way) She never completely believed me that she came across that way - as if my friends were her bff's too, but she totally did it all the time. Many might see this as weird, but you have to understand my mom. She is silly and fun and kind hearted. She rarely gets angry (stand back when she does), and always gives good advice. She is just an awesome person.

Well, freshman year of college, mom was helping me move into the dorms. I saw a girl I knew and said hello, chatting for a minute and then got on the elevator. While on our ride up, mom stated, "Oh, she seemed so nice. Is she our age?" (She said it dead serious too) I quickly looked at her with a smile and stated, "No, mom. She is MY age." We both cracked up.

She will always be young at heart, no matter what age her license says! PLEASSSEEE?? Either that or make Thanksgiving on a Friday? I'll even give up Columbus Day if it means I can have Friday off!

You see, I just feel like my time would be better spent shopping for some great bargains and actually stimulating the economy instead of sitting at my desk and waiting on a small handful of customers. People don't think about doing banking business that day anyway. I know there is that silly Federal law that won't allow banks to be closed 4 days in a row, but really, is that even necessary now a days? With all the technology advancements in the world today, people are still able to access their money. I know they can't make deposits, but that's just a minor detail really. Think of all the money that would be saved/spent if bank employees could have that day off....its mind boggling really.

So anyway, I'm sending you this letter with a hopeful heart that you will hear my plea and change the law.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Julie Nephew, banker extraordinaireUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748792674813587449.post-79339061989322064752008-11-28T09:07:00.008-06:002008-11-28T17:43:46.603-06:00You met who?
So, yesterday while enjoying our Thanksgiving meal, my grandfather (Papa) tells us a story.

Now mind you, Papa has awesome stories, and I love hearing them. After it was over, he and a friend went to eat lunch and then came back to the church. As they pulled up, the family of the deceased were also returning from the grave site. A buddy of Papa's asked him to come meet a jester (at least that's what Papa HEARD) and thought he was referring to the Masonic Lodge. (which I don't completely understand, but everyone else at the table did...so I didn't question it). Well, come to find out, it had nothing to do with the lodge. Instead, he was meeting JESSICA SIMPSON!

Ya, the gal who is on my Ipod was shaking my Papa's hand calling him Mr. Northcutt. Come to find out Jessica's agent (or something like that) was also related to the deceased and Jessica was there for support. Funny thing is that Papa had no idea who he was meeting until after the fact when his buddy clued him in to his new friend's identity. Papa just smiled and said, "Well, she was a nice looking young lady."

Too bad there weren't any paparazzi to capture the story!
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748792674813587449.post-47772042710072325932008-11-27T20:18:00.012-06:002009-03-26T10:02:34.704-05:00Turkey for you, Turkey for me...Happy Thanksgiving!

So much to be thankful for - oh so much! My hubby, our kiddos, our families and friends. I thank God daily for you guys!

Today was a great day. We celebrated Thanksgiving with family at my mom's house. Although not everyone was in attendance, we still had a great meal with wonderful conversation. Our food spread consisted of all my favorites that I dream about throughout the year.

Mmm...turkey, sweet potatoes, stuffing (or dressing depending on what you decide to call it), and cranberry salad (which I made). I'm definitely thankful for having ladies in my family who are good good cooks!

So, here are a couple pictures of the gang enjoying the meal.

Hope everyone else in cyberworld had a great Thanksgiving too!

Be sure to tune into tomorrow's blog where I'll be retelling a story that my grandfather told us today. Things like this only happen to him!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8748792674813587449.post-33612508075548373102008-11-26T10:38:00.005-06:002008-11-26T12:26:29.960-06:00My Signature ColorJust like Shelby from Steel Magnolia's, I have a signature color, but its definitely NOT pink. A few years ago, I stumbled onto the fact that whenever I wear this color, I always get compliments on how I look. People will ask, "Is that a new top?" or say, "What a pretty color." It took me a bit to catch on, but eventually realized the correlation between compliments and what color shirt I had on.

Lavender.

It never fails. I wear the color and the compliments will come. What's funny is that I think the color has a hint of gray in it, which is a horrid color on me, but for some reason, lavender looks awesome.

So, today I wear my color and may not be LOOKING for compliments, but have already received 3! It's going to be a good day.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
